Happy Birthday to whomever
Today was the office monthly group birthday party, at which we celebrate the birthdays of those born in September. With no formal recognition other than an email, the birthdayees arrive unnoticed with the other folks. People come, get a piece of cake, visit for the minimum necessary time (maybe 2 minutes) and then go back to work. We can do better.
Maybe we should have a contest for the b'ees with a prize going to the winner. A year off with pay perhaps. That would probably generate a little more energy around these events. What does your company do for birthdays?
L (my wife, a flight attendant for a major airline) got called out to fly this afternoon, and so I will be going solo with the three kids this weekend. She's back Sunday around 3 PM.
Her job is pretty cool since we get free flying privileges for us and the kids, but she is on call every fourth month so we don't know when she might have to leave on short notice. September was her on call month and I am glad it's over. It's really hard to plan anything in those months.
